Brigada Eskwela Awards 2008
Brigada Eskwela is a nationwide schools maintenance program that draws all education stakeholders – including the private sector -- to contribute their time, efforts and resources to ensure that public schools are physically ready for the opening of classes. The Awards honored outstanding participants of last year's Brigada Eskwela.
DepEd's Adopt-a-School Program is spearheading Brigada Eskwela which engages the private sector in helping public schools physically prepare for the opening of classes.
The awarding ceremony was held at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Complex.
Three elementary schools and three secondary schools each per region were honored as Brigada Eskwela Best Implementer awardees. There were a total of 96 winners from 16 regions. The school-awardees were categorized as Small, Big or Exceptional school based on their enrollment size. Awardees received plaque of recognition.
Region VIII and CARAGA received special awards for 100% participation of schools. Region VIII also bagged award for most number of volunteers.

Malunggay (Moringa oliefera)
The Philippines is cultivating a new wonder crop forbiofuel production, according to media reports. The malunggay, a plantthat can be grown for food and fuel, is touted to be a better biofuelcrop than jatropha.Unlike jatropha, all parts of the plant can be used either for food orfor fuel.
The leaves of malunggay can be eaten, while oil can be drawnfrom the seeds to produce fuel. The malunggay seedlings will take oneto two years to mature, half the time required for jatropha.Secura International is promoting the cultivation of the new wondercorp backed by the support from the Department ofAgriculture- Biotechnology Programme Office.
The biotechnology company has established 30 malunggay plantationscovering 300,000 hectares (741,316 acres) nationwide. It is nowlooking for an additional 200,000 hectares (494,211 acres) inCotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Davao, Ilocos, Pangasinan and Bohol.Oil extracted from the malunggay harvests at the plantations will besupplied to North American Biofuel Inc. for biodiesel production.

Something for you to know before its too late and cry... If you are ever forced by a thief or someone to take money out of an ATM machine, enter your pin number reversed. So if your number is 1254 mark 4521. The ATM machine will give you your money, but will automatically recognize this as a plea for help and will alert the police unknown to the thief. This option is in all ATM machines, but not many people know this. Please pass this information on to others. No harm in keeping this in mind!!
